Why Batteries Fail
While Pylontech batteries are well-designed and robust, improper installation and system configuration often lead to faults. Using advanced diagnostics, we extract history and event logs from the Battery Management System (BMS) to identify when and why issues occurred. Common causes include:
Incorrect System Setup:
- Faults from day one due to misconfigured inverter settings or incorrect CANbus cables being used.
- State of Charge (SOC) drops below safe limits, triggering alarms.
- Charge voltage set too high, causing cell swelling and blown BMS fuses.
- Discharge current exceeding limits, causing alarms and stressing battery cells.
- Low temperatures reducing charge currents.
- High temperatures damaging battery cells.
SOC Mismanagement:
- Prolonged float charging at 100% SOC, leading to swollen cells.
- Batteries left at 5-10% SOC during winter due to lack of grid charging, resulting in cell imbalance over time.
Seasonal Issues:
- Batteries failing to recharge fully in summer due to extended periods of low SOC during winter causing cell imbalance over time. Resulting in not being able to charge to 100% SOC

Diagnostics and Repair Process
When your battery arrives at our workshop, we will:
Fault Analysis:
- Extract history and error logs to determine the fault and its origin.
- For unique error codes or specific requirements, we consult directly with Pylontech for additional support.
Cell Imbalance Check:
- Measure the Internal Resistance (IR) of individual cells to assess potential damage.
- Typically, the BMS shuts down the battery before significant damage occurs.
Understanding the US2000C Battery Configuration
- A US2000C battery contains three black battery packs connected in series.
- Each pack consists of 10 cells (3.2V, 25Ah nominal), arranged as 2P5S. Combined, this forms a 2P15S configuration with 48V nominal voltage and 50Ah capacity.
- During charging, the inverter should supply 53.2V at 25A. Any cell imbalance due to slightly mismatched IR values may cause one cell to reach its upper voltage limit before the others, prompting the BMS to halt charging and activate passive balancing.
- Passive balancing can take hours to weeks, depending on the level of imbalance.
To address cell imbalance:
- Battery Pack Removal:
- We remove the three packs and connect them to specialized active balance chargers.
- Using professional equipment, we balance all packs within a few hours to a precision of 1-2mV.
- BMS Calibration:
- Reinstall the balanced packs, allowing the BMS to recalibrate and fully charge the battery to 100% SOC.
- Discharge Testing:
- Discharge the battery from 100% to 20% SOC at 10A.
- Review cell imbalance at 20% SOC and recharge to 40% SOC for shipping readiness.
BMS Replacement (If Selected)
If BMS replacement is requested:
- We replace the BMS with a genuine Pylontech part, program the serial number, capacity, reset the SOC and set the time and date.
Completion and Return
Once the repair is successful:
- We will contact you to confirm the repair and arrange a convenient return date.
- Our professional and thorough process ensures your battery is restored to optimal performance. Contact us if you have any questions or specific requirements.
Self-Installation Option
If you choose to purchase a replacement BMS for self-installation, we will supply a brand-new, genuine Pylontech CCMU for US2000/3000/5000 models or a CMU & PMU for US2000/3000 Plus models. A comprehensive fitting guide is included to assist you throughout the installation process.
The fitting guide provides clear, step-by-step instructions on the correct sequence for connecting cables and connectors, ensuring the BMS is not damaged during reinstallation.
Programming Requirements
After installing the replacement PCB, you will need a USB programming adapter to configure the following attributes:
- Serial number
- Time and date
- Cell capacity
- Reset SOC
You can use your own RS232 cable or purchase one of our programming kits for convenience.
Warranty Information
All replacement parts come with a 12-month warranty. However, failure to follow the fitting guide correctly will void the warranty.
